The fans unanimously supported Lionel Messi to win the 9th Ballon d’Or of his career, after witnessing an unbelievable performance in MLS on May 5.
The Argentine superstar was at the center of every move for Inter Miami, contributing 5 assists and 1 goal in the home team’s devastating victory. He currently has 10 goals and 12 assists this season despite only appearing in 8 matches.
Until now, Messi is still one of the best players in the world and not many people think he came to America just to “grow old”. After the win over the NY Red Bulls, a series of fans rushed to X to confirm that the 36-year-old striker is on his way to winning the 9th Ballon d’Or in his career.
The account @TheEuropeanLad led the call, with the following content: “I’m sorry but Lionel Messi is still the best player in the world because what you are seeing is really not normal. It’s time to spread the word – The competition for the 2024 Ballon d’Or has officially begun.”
In response, fan @IjeomahProsper believes that no one can catch Messi: “No one can stop Messi from winning the Ballon d’Or at this time. 5 assists and 1 goal, it’s unbelievable.” Meanwhile, @UTDTrey confirmed that the Copa America title can help Messi win the Ballon d’Or: “Just by winning the Copa America, Messi will win another Ballon d’Or.”
@Max Steph continued: “Let’s get the ball ready. Now it’s the 9th time, next year it’ll be the 10th. Messi is still the best player in the world to this day.”
Unlike many years ago, there are not many outstanding players competing for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award this year. Messi and Ronaldo are not currently playing in Europe, so they need to perform well in the national team in summer tournaments to affirm their position. While other potential players such as Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane is forced to win the Champions League and perform explosively at Euro 2024.
If he continues to show brilliant form in MLS and helps Argentina win the Copa America in the summer, with the condition that the candidates in Europe do not play well. It wouldn’t be surprising if Messi stood on the Golden Ball podium again.
