In the documentary “Voces de 7 de octubre – Latino Stories of Survival”, Mrs. Esther Cunio shared about her miraculous escape from death with her extended family in Nir Oz (Israel). Seemingly close to death, the 90-year-old woman reversed the situation in an unexpected way, by speaking Argentinian and mentioning Lionel Messi’s name.
“I remember the gunman spoke Arabic. I asked him if he knew Argentine or Spanish, and also asked him if he watched football. The gunman suddenly answered me: “He watches football. Immediately, I said that I came from Argentina, Lionel Messi’s hometown,” shared Mrs. Esther Cunio.
Mrs. Cunio took a photo with the gunman.
“When he heard Messi’s name, the gunman was very excited. He even put the gun in my lap and asked to take a souvenir photo, then posted it on social networks. I hope Messi knows about it. “My whole family survived thanks to his name,” the 90-year-old woman added.
Previously, Ms. Esther Cunio’s extended family of 8 was controlled by an armed group in an attack in Nir Oz. On social networks, fans expressed their interest in the story of the Israeli-Argentine grandmother.
“Messi deserves the Nobel Peace Prize,” said one fan. “Messi is truly a hero, not just on the field”, a second fan commented. Sharing the same opinion, a third person said: “I hope this story will reach his ears”.
As for Messi, he has just started the new season with Inter Miami. The superstar born in 1987 is in good form with 4 goals in his last 3 appearances in all competitions.
