Rookie “French unicorn” Victor Wembanyama was injured for a difficult reason

Victor Wembanyama is enjoying his first NBA season quite well with the San Antonio Spurs. The rookie “French unicorn” is averaging 18.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in more than 30 minutes on the field per match.

This form of rookie Spurs brings excitement before the clash with the Dallas Mavericks, creating an interesting competition between two European stars, Victor Wembanyama (France) and Luka Doncic (Slovenia).

However, before the match had even begun, Wembanyama encountered a rare situation that resulted in an injury and had to rest on the bench.

While warming up before the match, Victor Wembanyama was a bit unobservant, accidentally bumping into and unfortunately stepping on the foot of a ball caddy on the field.

The accidental step caused Wembanyama to flip his right ankle, right in the exact position where he had been injured and had pain before.

This was a rather unlucky situation when both Wemby and the ball staff were loose and unaware of each other’s presence, leading to an unfortunate injury.

The San Antonio Spurs further informed that Victor Wembanyama was taken to the locker room to have his ankle bandaged to determine whether he can play or not. But in the end, the medical team was perfectionist and let Wemby sit out the competition with Luka Doncic.

Without Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs couldn’t do much against their neighbor Dallas Mavericks. They received defeat with a score of 144-119, the 22nd loss in the last 23 appearances.

No one on the Spurs side can stop Luka Doncic when the Slovenian defender has a triple-double of 39 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

This is the second consecutive match that Victor Wembanyama has had to retire, the last time was the match against Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday also because of a sore right ankle.

San Antonio Spurs have not shared more information about the severity of the French rookie’s injury. Luckily for the striker born in 2004, he will have up to 3 days off before joining his teammates on the field next Wednesday (December 27), facing the Utah Jazz Club.
