Europe’s top leagues have seen many outstanding strikers over the past decade, possessing remarkable scoring rates. With data collected from Transfermarkt, below is a list of the 10 best scorers of the past decade.
Statistics are only calculated within the Top 5 European leagues. Goals scored by players while leaving these tournaments will not be considered.
10. Ciro Immobile: 239 goals
Up to this point in the season, Immobile has only pocketed 10 goals. However, the striker born in 1990 is still one of the most stable strikers in Europe in recent years. This player’s most scoring season was in the 2017-2018 season with 41 goals for Lazio in all competitions. Each season, Immobile scores an average of 23.9 goals.
9. Luis Suarez – 241 goals
Even though he will no longer play football in Europe from the summer of 2022, Suarez is still excellent on this list. The Uruguayan player showed top form while playing for Liverpool and Barca. During his career, Suarez has twice won the Golden Boot title, awarded to the best scorer in the national championship.
8. Mohamed Salah – 250 goals
Salah has perfectly replaced Suarez’s scoring duties at Liverpool. In the last 3 seasons, the Egyptian player has pocketed 30 goals or more for the port city team. This season, despite having to return to his hometown to play CAN, Salah still managed to bag 19 goals for the home team.
7. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 256 goals
Aubameyang does not always maintain his scoring form. However, once the Gabonese player gets into shape, any defense must be wary. The majority of Aubameyang’s goals over the past decade have come in the colors of Dortmund and Arsenal. This season, Aubameyang is flying high when playing for Marseille with 19 goals.
6. Karim Benzema – 257 goals
Ranked right above Aubameyang is French striker – Benzema. For many years, Benzema accepted the role of Ronaldo’s background at Real. However, this still cannot prevent Benzema from being on this list.
Since Ronaldo left the Royal team, Benzema has become the leader in attack. His brilliant performance in the 2021-2022 season also earned this player the Golden Ball. Benzema has now left Real to move to Al Ittihad of Saudi Arabia.
5. Kylian Mbappe – 271 goals
Mbappe is the youngest name on this list and has promised to quickly rise to a higher position in the near future. The 25-year-old player is the best scorer in PSG history, winning the title of top scorer 5 times in a row in the French Ligue 1 national championship.
After 7 years with PSG, information appeared that Mbappe did not renew his contract to move to Real this summer.
4. Harry Kane – 309 goals
At this time, Kane is leading the European Golden Shoe race with 27 goals in all competitions for Bayern. Some time ago, Kane played for Tottenham. Despite being empty-handed when he was with the London club, Kane still maintained a huge scoring performance and won the tournament’s top scorer title three times.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo – 350 goals
Ronaldo is the player who scored the most goals in world football history with 877 goals throughout his career. Over the past decade, Ronaldo has scored 350 goals while playing in Europe’s top tournaments.
On the last day of 2022, Ronaldo went to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Nassr. Otherwise, Ronaldo could have kept a higher position on this list. In the 2023-2024 season, Ronaldo promptly pocketed 39 goals.
2. Lionel Messi – 377 goals
The Argentine genius ranked 2nd on the list with 377 goals. This includes 345 goals Messi scored for Barca and 32 goals scored for PSG. Not only is he good at scoring goals, Messi is also one of the best playmakers.
Last summer, Messi moved to Inter Miami and helped the American club win the historic Federation Cup championship.
1. Robert Lewandowski – 407 goals
Leading the way is Polish star Robert Lewandowski. Most of Lewandowski’s goals over the past decade came during Lewandowski’s time with Bayern. He has 344 goals in 375 appearances. Moving to Barca, Lewandowski could not maintain the same great scoring performance as before. However, the number of 33 goals last season and 18 goals so far in the 2023/2024 season is still not bad at all.
